FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL RALLY & MOTORSPORT PARK – Starke, Florida

July 2013 to September 2014
I oversaw the daily operations of a 400 acre, multi-track facility that includes over 14 miles of rally, road course, ATV, off-road and karting tracks with tactical firearms ranges that included a drive-in 360 degree range. The park offers rally, road racing, ATV and off-road driving training and has a shop that manages a fleet of three dozen rally, track day and off-road vehicles. I also served as the Managing Director for the company’s International Security Academy military training division which provides driving and tactical shooting training to elite military special forces and law enforcement agencies. I managed an annual operating budget of over $1 million and oversaw an operating staff of 12 full time employees. I handled community and governmental relationships and developed hiring and labor practices for the company. Duties also included serving as the sales and marketing lead and I managed two web sites and all print and social media marketing programs. I turned the company around from an average loss of over $60k per month to break even within my first 6 months and posted a 37% financial improvement in 12 months. We implemented proper track safety procedures and secured the facility’s first major military contract under my leadership.

VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY – Alton, Virginia

March 2012 to June, 2013
I wore a number of hats for VIR, serving as the VIR Club Manager, Social Media Director and serving as the Race Director for VIR’s Spec:RaceAtom Series. Duties in these responsibilities included developing all on-track groups, training requirements, writing rules for the club and the race series, and operating all club and race series in a safe and profitable manner. I also developed and managed the marketing of the VIR Club to new members. On the social media front, I was responsible for the development of three VIR web sites, four VIR social media pages and one invitation-only group on Facebook, three twitter accounts and all other social media accounts. I also helped organize VIR’s open test days and assisted the Marketing Department in writing press releases as needed. I wrote the VIR Club Rules which covered all VIR-hosted events including the racing rules for the Spec:RaceAtom series.

SYNERGY RACING, INC. – Alton, Virginia

November 2010 to March 2012
I returned to Synergy as their General Manager to manage the day-to-day operations, financials and rebuilding phase of the team. Responsible for daily operational management, budget development and tracking, marketing initiatives, sponsor search, managing accounts payable and receivables, team development, company web site and social media accounts.

DAN RIVER GRAND PRIX – Danville, Virginia

June 2010 to July 2012
Owner of an indoor kart racing center. Responsibilities included development of the business plan, securing financing, negotiating property lease, managing facility build out, hiring staff and establishing company accounting procedures. I managed all IT systems including servers, workstations, point of sale stations, the company web site and all social media activities (Facebook, LinkedIn, Youtube, more). The center operated six days a week and provided kart racing services to both arrive-n-drive and experienced kart racers. I also Negotiated key facility sponsorship deals and managed all advertising and marketing initiatives.

UNITED STATES ENDURANCE RACING ASSOCIATION – Danville, Virginia

January 2006 to July 2012
USERA was my professional motorsports service company that managed operations of motorsports race events. Responsibilities include daily management of the business. The company operated both endurance and sprint race events across North America and into Canada. Other services provided included custom web design and more. I developed an on-line event management and member database system that automated participant management. I also developed a VB.Net-based product for controlling safety lighting systems using IP-based relays across cabled and wireless networks. I wrote press releases, managed advertising and sponsors and all other marketing materials. I organizing the team strategy which carried driver Stan Wilson to the 2007 SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge Touring Car Rookie Driver of Year title. Also in 2007, I managed the team for King Rat Motorsports which resulted in double divisional championships in both SCCA and NASA.

NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK – Millville, NJ

January 2008 to September 2008
I was hired in a consulting/contracting role to serve as the facilities first Managing Director where I built the operations infrastructure for the new $50 million dollar, multiple race track motorsports facility. I hired all key staff, built the management and operating infrastructure and helped move the facility from construction to operating stage. I managed an operating budget of over $2 million and created an operating staff of 25 full time and over 150 part time employees. I oversaw the setup of all aspects of the operation, from computers and phone systems, to hiring and staffing, to establishing the company accounting procedures, writing facility rental and vendor contracts, writing the employee handbook, and establishing the basic company departmental and reporting structure. I assisted in community and governmental relationship building, media events and developed hiring and labor practices for the facility. Identifying and finalized major sponsor deals with major corporate partners was also a priority in this role. The facility opened on time and well under all projected opening budgets.

SYNERGY RACING, INC. – Alton, Virginia

October 2004 to December 2005
As the team’s President, my responsibilities included managing the day-to-day operations, financials and long term growth of the team whose primary focus was professional road racing in the Grand-American Road Racing Series. I assisting in various marketing initiatives, sponsor search, driver vetting, managing accounts payable and receivables, and employee development for a staff of ten highly trained race professionals. My efforts helped the team win the Grand-Am Rolex GT Driver’s Championship, the GT Manufacturer’s Championship for Porsche and finish second overall in Team Championship points for the 2005 season.

SCCA PRO RACING, LTD. – Topeka, Kansas

September 2002 to October 2004
I was hired to serve as the Director of Operations which included providing daily operational management for the World Challenge Series. I developed new race series from concept to profitability, including being directly responsible for scheduling, staffing and budget performance. I was responsible for event planning and oversight, assisting marketing with development of sponsorship programs, overseeing accounts payable and receivables, and providing leadership to in house staff. I managed logistics, operations and scheduling of the field staff and race series truck and trailer and provided at-event support as the Race Director for several series. Using my past experiences in Information Technology, I served in a consulting role during the company move from Denver, CO to Topeka, Kansas and assisted with telephone infrastructure (T1s lines, equipment) ordering and installation and helped insure all services were properly configured during relocation. I supported all series computer systems including both internal systems and traveling systems for event management and series race timing.

ALABAMA REGION, SCCA – Birmingham, Alabama

January 1998 to October 2002
I began my racing career as a member of the Alabama Region of the Sport Car Club of America driving in divisional and National events across the Southeast. I served as a region representative to the Southeast Division’s racing programs. As a driver I won several regional championships and SCCA awards and attended the SCCA Runoffs in 2001. I served on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Region of the SCCA including serving as the Regional Executive of the region from 1998 through October of 2002. Duties as Regional Executive included managing region accounts, establishing and conducting region meetings and creating unique motorsports events. One of the unique events included a Solo I time trial event at the Talladega Super Speedway.

FEDERAL TRANSTEL, INC. – Birmingham, Alabama

September 1997 to September 2002
Manager Systems Support Responsibilities included providing management and technical leadership, budget planning, recruiting, team building, employee development, process planning and general accountability for all corporate computer and phone system infrastructure needs to support telephony billing, LEC billing and long distance servicing. Managed a three million dollar departmental budget with a seven person technical staff. My staff maintained all corporate servers, networks, workstations, web servers and phone systems. The corporate network consisted of a 150 seat call center, 100 seat business center and a 7×24 corporate data center of clustered Compaq AlphaServers running Tru64 Unix and three Oracle databases backed up using Legato backup subsystem. Windows NT and Linux servers were deployed to provide network, Internet and other services. My staff was also responsible for implementation of corporate and client requests for telephone-based services, including installation of T-1s, toll and toll free numbers, circuit activations and cancellations, and other phone system related requests. I provided internal programming and support for a Nortel Option 81c phone system, with six long distance and two local T1s, Internet T1, voice mail and other voice and data services.

DOCUMENT SOLUTIONS, INC. – Birmingham, Alabama

Manager Software Development Managed a team of 19 software developers, two technical writers and one network administrator. The team developed a check scanning and imaging system used by banks and credit unions to scan checks and create image return statements. Responsibilities included recruiting, team building, procedure development, budgeting, and project management.

MACESS CORPORATION – Birmingham, Alabama

Project Manager – Network Services (October 1995 to June 1996) Responsible for a wide range of special projects including network installations and special subsystem development efforts. Projects included setup and implementation of Windows NT Server with SQL Server and Btrieve for NT database systems, refining corporate backup procedures, and development of specific critical software/hardware subsystems. Developed a Novell NLM to provide client/server access to CD-ROM jukebox devices.

Product Manager (June 1994 to October 1995) Managed an eight person product development team for a Windows based imaging system for Health Maintenance Organizations. Responsibilities included planning release contents, managing product development team and implementing bug and feature tracking procedures.

Senior Analyst (June 1993 to June 1994) Developed key components of a Microsoft Windows based imaging system for Health Maintenance Organizations. Client/Server system was written in Microsoft Visual C/C++ for Microsoft Windows 3.1 using Btrieve 6.1 as the system record manager. Became the company expert on CD-ROM technology including image and voice recording (telephony), jukebox and mass production projects. Implemented a release control system to manage over 1 million lines of Windows/C source code.
